Our Inaugural Read All Over Gala (2010) Was a Success!
On Saturday, February 27, 2010, more than 150 people gathered at the historic Chamberlin for First Book - Hampton Roads inaugural Read All Over Gala. Miss Virginia Christie Black expressed her gratitude for the organization and explained its importance by sharing, "Only one in 300 children in low-income households have an age-appropriate book in their home, while in middle income neighborhoods the ratio of books per child is 13 to one." Guest speaker, noted historian Mr. John Quarstein, gave a brief history of Fort Monroe and the Chamberlin. Guests dined and danced to the live music of BJ Leiderman and the Bee-Jayz.
But most importantly, because of this event, thousands of brand new books will be given to the children in Hampton Roads who need them most. Thank you very much to everyone who attended this event and to everyone who supports our organization.
